Prom Outfit (ft. Up Bra)

My prom was just over a year ago now *sad face* but seeing everyone's prom photos from this year made me want to share my outfit! I am still in love with my dress and definitely need some more excuses to wear it.

It is a navy blue colour and has the perfect amount of sparkle in my opinion. I love how the neckline is dipped as well instead of being straight across as it looks much more flattering on most people.

I matched it with a navy blue clutch just big enough for all the essentials and some silver heels. For jewellery I wore a silver and blue necklace and on the day I also wore some simple silver bracelets which are not in these photos!

In these photos I am also wearing an 'UpBra'.  I have never been one to bother with push-up bras or anything in the past but I recently got sent one of these and it is honestly amazing.  It is adjustable with a strap inside so you can choose the amount of lift you want which means it transfers easily from day to night wear.

It also stays up amazingly without straps which a lot of bras don't. If you want to find out more about them, click here to go to their website!

In case you aren't totally convinced, here is a photo of me wearing it on the loosest setting and then one of the middle ones.

I hope you all have / had an amazing prom!

Plaited Up-Do Hair Tutorial + Tangle Teezer Review

I have been loving wearing this plaited up-do during the summer. It's perfect for keeping you hair out of your face, especially in the warm weather.  It's really easy to do as well!

First, brush through your hair to make sure there are no knots in it.  I used my 'Salon Elite' tangle teezer which I love. Tangle teezers are perfect for brushing through your hair effortlessly with 0 pain.

Next, split your hair in half and tie one half out of the way.

Then take a small section from the front of your hair and start off a normal braid (left section over the middle one, right section over the middle etc.).  Keep on braiding adding a little more hair to each section every time you cross it over until you have no more hair to add in.

When you get to this point, plait normally until you reach the end of your hair and secure it with a small elastic. Repeat these steps on the other half of your hair that you tied out of the way earlier.  You should end up with two French braids.

Take one of the braids and wrap it around in a circle shape near the bottom of your head.  Secure it with as many bobby pins as you need.  (It doesn't need to look perfect!)

When that is as secure as you want it, wrap the other plait around the outside of the first one. Try and make sure that you cover both the ends of the plaits and that your bobby pins aren't too obvious! If you want to check that it will stay put, shake your head gently and if you feel it moving too much then just add some more pins :)

Spray with hairspray for extra security and you're done! Obviously the size of the finished style will vary depending on how long your hair is.  This hairstyle is good for both casual and more formal occasions, to make it look more casual you could pull out some small pieces of hair to give it a more messy look. You could also add a bow or flower or anything else you like. It would be a nice easy prom hairstyle too if you are planning on doing your own hair for it :)

Now onto the tangle teezers! I have built up quite a collection of them now and a lot of people were asking questions about them last time I posted a photo of some on Instagram so since this post is hair related, I thought it would be a perfect time to do a little review on them.

There are four varieties (and yes I have multiples of them all!) - the original, salon elite, aqua splash and compact styler.

The original is the perfect size and shape to fit comfortable in your hand as you brush your hair and it gets rid of all tangles with literally no pain.  You can also use all tangle teezers on wet hair without causing damage which is amazing. The fact that they glide through your hair so easily means you can also use them when wearing extensions without pulling on them.  The salon elite is slightly bigger and the brush itself is more curved so it sort of matches the curve of your head and brushes it well from the roots. The one I have shown in the picture is part of their 'sugared almonds' range which are pastels and I think are limited edition for the summer.

Then there is the 'aqua splash' range. I always use this in the shower as it's perfect for brushing through your hair when you're conditioning to make sure that the product is evenly distributed.  As you can see, it is also hollow which means you can stand it up and it will drain all the water out of it.

Finally, there are the 'compact stylers'. Before I started using these, I always used to have the problem with things like headphones getting tangled in the bristles of any brushes I had in my bag which is super annoying.  These compact stylers are small enough to take up little room in your bag and they also have a clip-on cover which means the bristles aren't exposed and nothing can get caught in them! I always have one in my bag as they are super handy and just as good at detangling as the larger ones :)

We actually bought my labradoodle his own tangle teezer and it works so well! He looks basically 90% poodle so he has quite thick, curly hair and when we brush him with this it makes him so soft :) He never used to like being brushed with regular dog brushes but he loves being brushed with his tangle teezer haha.

I would definitely recommend getting your hands on a tangle teezer.  Hope you enjoyed this post and will try out the hair style :) x

Q&A #2

I haven't done a Q&A since I first started my blog in March so thought it was time for another! I will be answering some of the questions you asked me on Instagram so if you want to be involved in the next one go and follow me there (@tierneyellen).

elliemorgxn 1d or 5sos?
That's not a hard one, definitely 5sos! I am not a fan of one direction at all.

lucyxcourtney Starbucks or Costa?
I love the mango and passionfruit cooler from Costa, but overall I would have to say Starbucks because I am slightly addicted..

_elrose What do you want to be/career?
I change my mind about this practically every week, the last thing I wanted to be was a vet nurse but currently it's more like zoology/conservation of wild animals.

lauraaaaaa101 Where do you wish you could be right now?
California! We haven't been there in so long and I would love to go back :(

pastel_smarties Do you have any high end makeup brushes like Real Techniques / Sigma / Zoeva?
I have a few Real Techniques brushes but I wouldn't say they were high end, I think they're quite good prices for the quality they are! My favourites are the blush brush and expert face brush. I have the Zoeva rose gold brushes too which are definitely my all time favourite brushes. They are so soft, the rose gold colour is gorgeous and they are all round amazing in my opinion :)

xo_lowey_xo What mascara do you use?
It depends, but most days I use Soap & Glory's 'thick and fast' for my top lashes and Maybelline's 'rocket volume' for the bottom ones because I hate my bottom lashes to be too long!

alex__believe What powder do you use?
Rimmel 'Stay Matte' :) It is so good at keeping your skin matte all day and for £3.99 you can't really go wrong!

_xofashionx Favourite yankee candle?
Either black cherry or pink dragonfruit, they both smell amazing! I smelt pink hibiscus and lovely kiku (I think that's what it's called) the other day and they're so nice too.

idamariestendys Do you like white chocolate?
No, I only really like milk chocolate, white is too sweet and dark is too bitter!

ellieeee_taylor Favourite junk food?
Pizza of course! Nothing beats it.

That's it for this Q&A, hope you enjoyed reading and thank you to everyone who asked me questions. Sorry I couldn't answer them all but I don't want to bore you! x

Summer Essentials

It seems weird to be writing this post on my summer essentials when it has been pouring it down with rain all day, but here goes!

I much prefer body mists/sprays to perfumes in summer, and my all time favourites are the Hollister Body Mists (as you can see, I have quite a few). Solana beach smells the nicest in my opinion, but they all smell lush.

Bikinis are obviously a must have for summer, and I have been loving my Triangl 'Milly' bikini in 'Santa Rosa Splash'. It is neoprene so it fits really well and is such a beautiful colour.

If you don't want to be walking around on the beach in just a bikini, then kimonos are perfect. I have a couple and I wear them when it's too cold for just a top and too warm for a cardi/jumper.  They are good for adding a summery look to an outfit too. I have two that I wear all the time; a neon feather print kimono from Miss Pap and a mint green floral one from Look Book Store.

A few weeks ago, I got a couple of pairs of jelly shoes from a company called 'Jelly Beans'.  I have two pairs, a clear sparkly pair and a leopard print pair.  I haven't worn jelly shoes since I was tiny so these are like a throwback to childhood! They are super comfy and easy to wear with anything in summer.  Plus they came with actual jelly beans so what could be better?

Everyone needs a good pair of sunglasses for summer and my favourites at the minute are these ones from Topshop.

I am usually the palest person ever and this summer I decided to try fake tan.  Up until this year I always thought it would look awful on me but I tried out the started kit from Million Dollar Tan and it went the perfect colour and there was not a single streak.  I will definitely be using it more!

The summer heat can damage your hair, so you should keep it nice and hydrated.  Lani hair oil is amazing for keeping my hair soft and in good condition. If you want to try it out with 15% off then just use the code 'TIERNEY15' :)

I don't tend to read much, but it can be good to have a book to take with you on holiday or to the beach. I loved the book 'The fault in our stars' (I'm pretty sure everyone has read it or seen the movie by now!) so I went and got 'an abundance of Katherine's' 'paper towns' and 'Will Grayson, Will Grayson' all by John Green. I haven't read them yet but I've heard good things about them!

Finally, slushy's are my favourite summer drink so I got a slushy maker! It is basically a flexible cup that you freeze and then pour a drink into and squeeze it for about a minute.  It instantly slushifies whatever drink you put in it and I have literally been having at least one a day!

That's it for my summer essentials, hope you enjoyed reading :) x

Trip to London + OOTD

On Wednesday I treated my mum to a trip to London for her birthday, including tickets to see Les Miserablés. It was a really lovely day so I thought I'd share it :)

The day started with a long journey, and after we got off the train we did a bit of sightseeing then headed for Oxford Street and Regent Street for shopping.

We mainly went around the shops that we don't have anywhere near us, like American Apparel, Urban Outfitters, Michael Kors etc..

For lunch, we stopped at Pret á Manger.  I had a brie and basil baguette and pomegranate and hibiscus iced tea which was delicious!

Then it was time for Les Mis :) I have grown up listening to the original soundrack on vinyl as my mum was always a big fan of musicals and I used to use 'Castle on a cloud' as my audition song! We watched the movie at least 5 times the first week it was out and I am constantly listening to the soundrack on my phone. The show turned out to be as amazing as I thought it was going to be. Peter Lockyer who played Jean Val Jean and David Thaxton as Javert were spectacular and Carrie Hope Fletcher (who is one of the loveliest people I've ever met) was amazing as Eponine! I would definitely recommend anyone going to see it.

I have recently become slightly obsessed with Bubble Tea and we knew there were quite a few shops selling it around London so of course, when we saw some on the way back to the train station we had to get some!  I got iced honeydew green tea with passionfruit popping boba and it was so good.  I'm really glad they put ice in it too as the train back was ridiculously hot!

It has been uncharacteristically roasting in England for the past week or two so I was prepared for the boiling hot weather which we got! I wore my Rock on Ruby 'Away with the fairies...' tee with some denim shorts from New Look and white lace up plimsolls from Primark.

I also used my pink Kipling bag as it weighs practically nothing but is big enough to carry everything I needed plus any extra things that I bought :) For jewellery, I had on my Hamsa Hand necklace from Euphoria creations and silver rope bracelet from RaRa De Barr.

Finally, it was time for the train home.  I found out that I am definitely not a city girl and not someone who is likely to commute regularly but it was a nice day out :)

Hope you enjoyed this post and I would really recommend going to see Les Mis in London! x
